Tastes from the Amphora
As part of the activities at Colentum, within the project Tastes from the Amphora run by the Argonauta association in partnership with the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Murter-Kornati and the Municipality of Murter-Kornati, educational activities are being held to raise awareness of the importance of fishing and maritime heritage among restaurateurs, fishermen and fish processors.
At the first workshop we learned about the ingredients used in the time of Colentum, shared experiences among the fishermen, fish processors and restaurateurs who gathered and, guided by educators from the Centre for Food Culture, together explored ways of preserving fish and created new dishes inspired by the past.
An ancient dinner inspired by Colentum
The participants continued with workshops on the theme of an ancient dinner inspired by the past of Colentum – using traditional ingredients, they were introduced to more modern methods, recipes and combinations, to raise awareness of and nurture the fact that tradition evolves over time and that this is the only way it will survive. At both workshops, the participants also discussed opportunities for cooperation and the problems and challenges they face, whether in catching or processing fish or in serving fish specialities.
Maritime heritage as inspiration
Various innovative approaches to popularising and theming fishing and maritime heritage, inspired by linking ancient resources, will contribute to the valorisation of the maritime heritage of the LAGUR Galeb area. Through educating the local community and building capacity, connecting the private, public and civil sectors working in the field of the sea and fishing, and improving the Colentum Night event, gastronomy based on fish specialities will be popularised and made available to everyone who comes to the island of Murter. The ancient part of the historical and cultural legacy of the archaeological sites of the island of Murter will serve as inspiration for a new offer.

About the project
Through the development strategy of FLAG “Galeb”, Measure 2.1.1 “Strengthening the competitiveness of fishery and aquaculture products”, the Argonauta association based in Murter was awarded HRK 148,846.00 in grants for the implementation of the Tastes from the Amphora project. The funds will be used for training for fishermen, fish processors and restaurateurs, designing an ancient menu, running the Tastes from the Amphora prize game and organising the “Colentum Night 2022” event.
The decision to select the project was made by FLAG “Galeb”, and the decision to award the funds by the Ministry of Agriculture, Directorate of Fisheries, in June 2021. The activity is co-financed by the European Union from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund through the Operational Programme for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The project is run by the Argonauta association in partnership with the Municipality of Murter-Kornati and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Murter-Kornati.
