On Monday, 8 April 2019, in Padua, Italy, representatives of the Municipality of Murter-Kornati took part in the kick-off conference of the HISTORIC project – Heritage for Innovative and Sustainable TOurist Regions Italy and Croatia.
The project was approved and financed under the Standard programme of Interreg Croatia-Italy – priority axis Environment and cultural heritage. At the conference, the partners, including the Municipality of Murter-Kornati, presented their activities and project teams and agreed on responsibilities and the timeline for implementing the project activities.
The overall objective of the HISTORIC project, worth approximately EUR 2.5 million in total, is to achieve a higher level of sustainable economic and territorial development by using the potential of cultural heritage, valorising and uncovering historical and local traditions and guiding local communities towards a more conscious and responsible use of the potential of cultural heritage. The lead partner of the HISTORIC project is the company Sistemi Territoriali SPA from Italy, while the Italian partners are the University of Padua, the Municipality of Rovigo and a development agency from Venice, with the municipalities of Medulin and Murter-Kornati as Croatian partners.
The value of the activities that the Municipality of Murter-Kornati will carry out within the project is approximately EUR 470,000. Among other activities, the project will develop the Colentum Archaeological Park (the first Croatian archaeological beach) in Murter. The first phase of works is already under way, consisting of archaeological and conservation work that will be completed by mid-May 2019.
Representatives of the municipality and the Šibenik City Museum will present all the project activities in detail at a press conference in early May 2019.
