The Colentum archaeological site is special for many historical reasons: it was once one of the more important Roman ports, because of its numerous mosaics it is also called the “Town of Mosaics”, its history of settlement goes back a long way, and why life here ceased is still a mystery…
For many years now, the Argonauta association, the Šibenik City Museum, the Municipality of Murter-Kornati and the Murter-Kornati Tourist Board have been joining forces in various activities and projects to contribute to the valorisation of this site and to secure funds for its further research. The latest in a series of such initiatives is the installation of the first seaside swing on the Colentum archaeological beach!
Although it may seem a small initiative, it proved a great success from the very first days! The swing is a real ornament for the site, above all because it does not spoil the look of the beach and surroundings, being made of natural materials – wood, i.e. driftwood. It has been placed so that every lover of sunsets can enjoy this beautiful sight while also looking at the archaeological beach and the walls of ancient Colentum. The swing is a real hit on social media, and we have no doubt that the most beautiful photos and postcards of summer holidays in Murter will be taken right here!
The idea for Murter's first seaside swing came from Sanja and Marko Kovačev, and putting it up was the result of teamwork. Staff of the Argonauta association, the Municipality of Murter-Kornati and the Murter-Kornati Tourist Board took part, along with hard-working and talented hands – the swing was made by Murter caulker Nikola Skračić Čiči, and the letters on it were installed by the company Lineta from Šibenik.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this idea a reality, and we invite all residents of the island of Murter, tourists and visitors to visit the site and give their verdict on this initiative!
