This year too, “Colentum Night” arrived at the end of August to brighten up our farewell to summer. Even richer in content this year, at the beautiful location of the Colentum archaeological site, “Colentum Night” welcomed many lovers of Murter's cultural heritage, history and archaeology, as well as many other visitors, tourists and the curious.
Visitors were taken to the Colentum archaeological site by a tourist train, as the site is some distance from the village centre, to make the event easier to reach for all age groups. As soon as they arrived, visitors could put on laurel wreaths and so “officially” become Colentians, at least for one evening. Laurel wreaths and making legionary helmets were part of the fair organised by the Argonauta association. The fair offered Argonauta products inspired by the Colentum archaeological site and products made from Mediterranean herbs by the Kornati Agricultural Cooperative, and for those keen to compete there was a photo backdrop inspired by the life of the people of Colentum, part of the prize game “Take a photo in the style of the ancient Colentians!”. Whoever collected the most “likes” on their Instagram profile by Monday would win a valuable prize – dinner for two at a Murter restaurant! Another chance to win a dinner was diving for prize amphorae in the shallows in front of the Colentum archaeological site. Several lucky swimmers/divers won dinners at the Boba, Fabro and Lantana restaurants.
The fair and prize games were complemented by the Virko theatre's play “What's new in Rome?”, held below the viewpoint. Scenes from the play added to the realistic atmosphere of ancient Colentum. After the play, Nera Gojanović and Gordana Pavić entertained visitors with film arias, and to end the evening visitors could watch the premiere of “Bake” (Grannies), a documentary inspired by Murter's carnival customs. Along with the screening, visitors could meet Murter's grannies by having their photo taken with the “Game of Thrones” backdrop, one of the group masks from the 2018 carnival procession. An ancient-style reception closed an evening in which, at least for a moment, we went back to the distant past of Colentum and the life of the Colentians…
The event was organised by the Murter-Kornati Tourist Board in cooperation with the Argonauta and Latinsko idro associations, the Municipality of Murter-Kornati, the Tisno Volunteer Fire Brigade and volunteers.
