Arheološko nalazište Colentum postaje spomenik volonterstva

On Monday morning, 2 October 2017, the first volunteer campaign organised within the international youth exchange project “Investing in young people – the GLUE project” was held, bringing together around 40 unemployed young people from Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Turkey, Portugal and Bulgaria.

This group of young volunteers helped with work at the Colentum archaeological site on the Gradina peninsula in Murter. The group of 40 young people from 6 countries was divided into three teams: two of them completed the circular trail around Gradina, covering the remaining part of the dry-stone path, once a Liburnian rampart, with gravel so that it would be passable for bikes and more pleasant for walkers. The third team cleared vegetation along the dry-stone wall on the new archaeological beach to free it up for restoration in future volunteer campaigns.

In this way, the volunteers added their names and donated volunteer hours to a group that now numbers more than 300 international and local volunteers who, through their volunteer work, have contributed to the vision of Colentum as an archaeological and recreational park and a future arboretum. In the future, the Colentum archaeological site will thus also be known as a monument to volunteering.
