Stone and Sail Extravaganza

Objectives

The aim of the project is to improve knowledge and raise awareness of the values of cultural (archaeological and maritime) heritage as a shared European value and to make use of its potential for the sustainable development of rural communities by connecting local and international young people.

Beneficiaries

The target group of the project is 10 ESC volunteers from Spain, France, Poland and Bulgaria. The activities in which we involved the ESC volunteers in 2021 can be grouped by theme:

1. The Colentum archaeological site and the old Raduč military complex

• helping to prepare for archaeological excavations and conservation;
• helping to prepare for the restoration of dry-stone walls on site;
• helping to restore dry-stone walls;
• beach and forest clean-ups in the Colentum and Raduč area;
• helping to promote the archaeological sites (media production: video, newsletter, posts, articles, educational games…).

2. The tradition of the lateen sail

• video production workshop;
• making a promotional video;
• an interpretative lecture on the tradition of the lateen sail;
• a visit to the Betina Museum of Wooden Shipbuilding;
• helping to promote the tradition of the lateen sail internationally;
• helping to translate the Latinsko idro website into English.

These young people also had the opportunity to experience a culture new to them in Murter, both national and local. In addition, through this project the volunteers improved their skills and competences for personal, educational, social, civic, cultural and professional development, which empowered them and certainly had a positive effect on their self-confidence.
