Its main goal was to contribute to the valorisation of maritime heritage in the area of FLAG Galeb through an innovative approach to popularising and theming fishing and maritime heritage, inspired by linking the ancient resource base of the Colentum archaeological site, the historical significance of the amphora and the contemporary gastronomic offer of Murter's restaurateurs.

The project included three main activities carried out with local stakeholders of various profiles: restaurateurs, fishermen, fish processors and representatives of associations, institutions and public administration. Through training led by the Centre for Food Culture, ancient recipes were researched and the offer of restaurants on the island of Murter was analysed, along with the possibilities of adapting menus and drawing inspiration from ancient eating habits and the Colentum site. Through this activity, fishermen and fish processors joined the discussion on branding the fish offer for the first time, setting out all the threats they face in their work, as well as proposals and opportunities for selling and distributing fish given the availability of species and seasonality.

The Tastes from the Amphora prize game served to promote the maritime heritage of the island of Murter and the Colentum archaeological site to the wider public – tourists, visitors and local people of Murter. Through this game, many tourists and visitors had the chance to get to know Murter, its natural and cultural heritage and its gastronomic offer better. In total, 20 of the 80 amphorae dropped into the sea were found, so 40 people who visited Murter received a fish dish at one of the restaurants involved in the project, bread inspired by the Colentum archaeological site or jars of salted fish.

Colentum Night presented dishes inspired by ancient times, created at the educational workshops at the beginning of the project, as well as interpretative stories and content created during the project by author Sanja Vukman Mrša, all to promote the Colentum archaeological site and link it with today's offer of Murter as a destination connected to the sea in every aspect of life.

Through evaluation meetings, the project partners – the Argonauta association as the lead partner, the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Murter-Kornati and the Municipality of Murter-Kornati – recorded every step of the project's implementation, and together with representatives of the restaurateurs a SWOT analysis of the prize game was carried out, so that it can be planned in the future in line with the strengths and weaknesses identified.

The most valuable contribution of this project is certainly the first networking of all the stakeholders important for developing Murter as a maritime destination, and an approach that links all the levels important for the sustainable development of the product and the destination in an interdisciplinary way. By joining the Plastic-Free Archipelago project and presenting the jar as a modern amphora – packaging that circulates – we added extra value to the project and encouraged all participants to think differently about developing products and services. The Colentum site is a living destination; its history is the foundation for its present, inspired by the archipelago that surrounds it and the people who live from and with the sea.

Through the development strategy of FLAG “Galeb”, Measure 1.1.1 “Promotion of local fisheries”, the Argonauta association based in Murter was awarded HRK 148,846.00 in grants for the implementation of the Tastes from the Amphora project. The funds will be used for training for fishermen, fish processors and restaurateurs, designing an ancient menu, running the Tastes from the Amphora prize game and organising the “Colentum Night 2022” event. The decision to select the project was made by FLAG “Galeb”, and the decision to award the funds by the Ministry of Agriculture, Directorate of Fisheries, in June 2021. The activity is co-financed by the European Union from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund through the Operational Programme for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The content of the event is the sole responsibility of the Argonauta association.

The project is run by the Argonauta association in partnership with the Municipality of Murter-Kornati and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Murter-Kornati.

After a year of implementation, the Tastes from the Amphora project has come to an end.
