With Colentum Night on Friday, 19 August, the journey to the vanished town of Colentum came to an end. The final act of the three-day journey took place on Friday at the archaeological site with the Colentum Night programme. Besides the organiser of the event, the Argonauta association, the programme was carried out with the participation of Sanja Vukman Mrša, external associate on the Tastes from the Amphora project, the Latinsko idro association and the fair exhibitors, all with the logistical support of partners the Murter-Kornati Tourist Board and the Municipality of Murter-Kornati.

The aim of the event was to bring to life, imagine and experience the vanished town – the ancient port of Colentum – through creating a shared story, through play and activities that connect the past, present and future of this territory, based on its timeless values rooted in the maritime heritage of the island of Murter.

Colentum Night 2022 was a kind of entry into the finale of the activities of the Tastes from the Amphora project, whose main goal is to contribute to the valorisation of maritime heritage in the area of FLAG Galeb through an innovative approach to popularising and theming fishing and maritime heritage, inspired by linking the ancient resource base of the Colentum archaeological site, the historical significance of the amphora and the contemporary gastronomic offer of Murter's restaurateurs.

The 2022 Colentum Fair was presented in the spirit of the game RETURN TO THE VANISHED TOWN – the fair presented a range of items created while developing the project content, items that build the experiences of a new age in a unique way – the Colentum jar, a travel jar concept through which Murter, via the Tastes from the Amphora project, responds to the Plastic-Free Archipelago initiative; it is a practical tool for promoting a “zero waste” way of life, a philosophy that was completely natural in antiquity, because “nothing was waste to a Roman”, and this way of thinking is comparable to the philosophy of the islanders who farmed the Kornati. The Colentum loose-leaf recipe collection was presented as leaflets with recipes suitable for the jar – fish recipes based on ancient dishes, interpretations of drinks and the Colentum story. Besides the traditional fair, a workshop called The Story of the Vanished Town of Colentum was held at Colentum Night. All participants in the event had the chance to taste fish specialities inspired by the Colentum site and Murter's maritime heritage at the refreshments served during the event.

The grand finale of the event was the re-enactment of ancient fishing by the Latinsko idro association and the placing of a time capsule from Colentum, which will next be opened only in a hundred years.

The activities of the Tastes from the Amphora project are still continuing with the Tastes from the Amphora prize game, in which Murter's restaurateurs take part, and we invite you to follow all the news on the Colentum.info website and its social media profiles.

Through the development strategy of FLAG “Galeb”, Measure 1.1.1 “Promotion of local fisheries”, the Argonauta association based in Murter was awarded HRK 148,846.00 in grants for the implementation of the Tastes from the Amphora project. The funds will be used for training for fishermen, fish processors and restaurateurs, designing an ancient menu, running the Tastes from the Amphora prize game and organising the “Colentum Night 2022” event. The decision to select the project was made by FLAG “Galeb”, and the decision to award the funds by the Ministry of Agriculture, Directorate of Fisheries, in June 2021. The activity is co-financed by the European Union from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund through the Operational Programme for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The content of the project is the sole responsibility of the Argonauta association.

The project is run by the Argonauta association in partnership with the Municipality of Murter-Kornati and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Murte
